Birkirkara joined Gzira United in second place thanks to a comfortable 3-1 win over Gudja United at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
The Stripes therefore extended their positive run to five matches, returning to winning ways following the draw with Valletta in their last outing. Gudja, on the other hand, suffered a third defeat in four matches to remain seventh.
Birkirkara took the lead on the 16th minute when off a cross by Denis Custodio Ribeiro from the left, the ball was blocked by Glenn Zammit but off the rebound, the ball reached Osvaldo Iorio who placed the ball at the back of the net.
Four minutes from the end of the first half, Enzo Daniel Cabrera doubled the score with a header off a cross from the right.
The Stripes increased the lead two minutes in the second half once again thanks to a goal by Osvaldo Iorio who hit home after the Gudja goalkeeper had blocked a first attempt.
Seven minutes from time, Gudja pulled one back thanks to a low shot from the right by Tatsuro Nagamatsu which beat Sylla.
