A goal by Elvis Mashike was enough for Hamrun Spartans to defeat Valletta 1-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday to move temporarily fourteen points clear.
This was the eighth consecutive win for the Spartans which puts them even closer to the title. Valletta, on the other hand, remain ninth on 25 points as they have now gone five matches without a win.
The Spartans were unlucky to hit the foot of the upright through Matthew Guillaumier on 16 minutes.
However three minutes later, they scored the all-important goal when Jonny intercepted a pass by Bradley Kamden for Ulrich N’Nomo and served Elvis Mashike Sukisa who slotted the ball home past goalkeeper Cain Formosa.
