Izibet Amateur League: Senglea, Mgarr register wins

Senglea Athletic and Mgarr United maintained their challenge for promotion as they both registered wins in Group A of the Izibet Amateur League at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

In the first match, leaders Senglea defeated Xghajra Tornados 2-1. Timmy Thomas put Senglea ahead on the 22nd and six minutes from the end of the first half, Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel doubled the score. Aidan Agius Gilford converted a penalty to reduce the gap eight minutes in the second half.

In another match, Christian Saint Ebisindor scored three as Mgarr defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 6-1. Ironically, the Lightnings took the lead thanks to a goal by Yuya Emura on the 15th but Julian Camilleri equalised on the 21st and Clayton Borg made it 2-1 on the 34th. Liam Portelli extended the lead eight minutes in the second half and Christian Saint Ebisindor scored three on the 71st, 83rd and 93rd.

Senglea lead the way with 46 points, followed by Mgarr and Zabbar on 38, Birzebbuga 28, Kalkara 24, Xghajra 12, Qormi 19, Mellieha 13, Pembroke 12, Sta. Venera 11 and Ta’ Xbiex 1.
