BOV Challenge League: Tarxien close in on Zejtun in battle for play-off spot

Zejtun Corinthians scored deep in stoppage time to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Melita at the Centenary Stadium in one of the matches from the BOV Challenge League on Sunday.

Russell Fenech put Zejtun ahead on the 9th but Christopher Baker equalised on the 29th and seven minutes in the second half, Anderson de Barros handed Melita the lead. However Keith Attard notched the equaliser three minutes in added time.

Tarxien Rainbows move two points behind Zejtun thanks to a 5-2 win over Zurrieq. Carlos Conceicao Filho put the Rainbows ahead on the 17th but Christopher Nnamdi Appah equalised on the 19th and an own goal six minutes later put Zurrieq ahead. Junior Conceicao Cabral levelled matters on the 35th and during the second half, Tarxien scored three thanks to Jairo Santos de Oliveira Filho on the 53rd, Darren Falzon on the 60th and Emmanuel Mbong two minutes from time.

Vittoriosa Stars claimed three important points in the battle against relegation as they came from behind to beat St. Andrews 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Wellington de Oliveira put the Saints ahead on the 27th but a penalty by Junior Dibola levelled matters and two late goals by Jeremy Delmar on the 86th and Isaac Galea on the 91st handed Vittoriosa the three points.

In another match, Mtarfa and Marsaskala earned a point each in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. An own goal put Mtarfa ahead after just three minutes but Adrian Carabott equalised on the 80th and three minutes later, Renold Winchester made it 2-1 for Marsaskala. However Genesis Fernandes de Andrade levelled matters for Mtarfa.
