A goal after just twenty seconds paved the way for Balzan as they defeated Floriana 3-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Balzan, therefore, continue to share the fourth place with Hibernians, moving three points ahead of Mosta and just one behind third-placed Birkirkara.
Floriana, on the other hand, are now ninth on 27 points, two behind Valletta and one behind Gudja. They have now gone six matches without a win.
Balzan had a perfect start, taking the lead after just 20 seconds when off an assist by Paul Fenech, Aleksa Andrejic beat Floriana goalkeeper Duncan Formosa with a perfect lob from a distance of around twenty five metres.
Bojan Kaljevic doubled the score on the 23rd minute when off a cross by Andrejic from the right, the Montenegrin striker allowed the ball to bounce before heading the ball over the goalkeeper.
Six minutes from the end of the first half, Matheus Souza released Bojan Kaljevic on the right and off the latter’s assist Angel Torres placed the ball at the back of the net.
Floriana reduced the gap on the 58th minute when off an Adam Magri Overend cross from the right, the ball was deflected by Kemar Reid for substitute Lorenzo Trillo to beat Jonathan Debono with a diagonal shot from the left.
Four minutes from time, Emiliano Callegari was sent off for Floriana for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
