Hamrun edge closer to championship

Hamrun Spartans moved a step closer towards securing the championship thanks to a 2-1 win over Mosta at the Tony Bezzina Stadium. A win which puts Branko Nisevic’s side fourteen points clear and therefore they need just two points from the remaining five matches to claim the title.

A draw would also be enough for Hamrun in the direct clash with Gzira United on Saturday.

For Mosta, this defeat saw them lose two places in the table as they now lie in sixth place, three points behind Hibernians and Balzan.

The Spartans took the lead on the 6th minute when Matthew Guillaumier sent Ederson Bruno Domingos through and the latter beat Akpan with a fine shot from the edge of the area.

On the 28th minute, Hamrun scored the second goal when they were awarded a penalty after Steve Kingue handled the ball inside the area and from the penalty spot, Elvis Mashike converted.

Mosta pulled one back on the 63rd minute courtesy of Zachary Brincat who received a through pass and beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello.
