BOV Challenge League: Naxxar Lions move closer to promotion

Naxxar Lions moved another step closer to promotion as they defeated Melita 2-1 in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top Six at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Andrew Messina put the Amateurs ahead on the 25th but a brace by Robinson Blandon Rendon on the 56th and 87th did the job for Naxxar.

Sliema lead the way with 62 points, followed by Naxxar on 51, Zejtun 41, Tarxien 36, Melita 31 and Zurrieq 29.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Swieqi United moved closer to securing their status as they defeated Qrendi 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium courtesy of a Jamie Scerri goal on the 37th minute.

Marsaskala registered a comfortable 5-0 win over Mqabba at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by Rundell Renold Winchester on the 23rd, Joshua Micallef on the 26th, Allan da Silva Oliveira on the 35th, Adrian Carabott on the 49th and Andrews Tenorio Viveros on the 80th.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Lija Athletic defeated Vittoriosa Stars by the odd goal in seven. Goals by Junior Dibola on the 28th and Jeremy Delmar three minutes later put Vittoriosa two goals ahead. Just before half time, Duvan Mosquera Torres pulled one back and nine minutes in the second half, the same player levelled matters. Mosquera Torres made it 3-2 on the 76th but two minutes in added time, Aaron Sammut restored equilibrium. However two minutes later, Elise Okito Lundula made it 4-3 for Lija

In another match, Marsa and Mtarfa shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Centenary Stadium

Swieqi lead the way with 37 points, followed by Fgura and St. Andrews on 35, Lija 32, Marsa 28, Attard 26, Qrendi and San Gwann 24, Marsaskala 23, Mqabba 21, Vittoriosa and Mtarfa 17.
