Senglea Athletic made a quick return to the Challenge League thanks to a goalless draw in the top-of-the-table clash in Group A of the Izibet Amateur League at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday to ensure they finished top.
Kalkars United defeated Ta’ Xbiex 6-3 at the Sirens Stadium. Dhonatan Santos da Hits put Kalkara ahead on the 13th and Luke Farrugia doubled the score two minutes later. Nathan Attard was quick to make it 3-0 on the 16th but Matthew Grech reduced the gap on the 31st although Dylan Micallef scored Kalkara’s fourth five minutes from the end of the first half. Vadim Gulceac made it 5-1 seven minutes in the second half and although Matthew Grech converted two penalties on the 62nd and 69th, Gulceac added another goal for Kalkara on the 73rd.
A goal by Aaron Hili on the 75th handed Xghajra Tornados a narrow win over Sta. Venera Lightnings in another match at the Sirens Stadium.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Pembroke Athleta defeated Mellieha 2-1. Weverton Gomes converted a penalty on the 9th minute but although Luke Scicluna levelled matters just before half-time, Gomes restored the lead on the 61st.
Senglea lead the way with 53 points followed by Zabbar on 48, Mgarr 44, Kalkara 33, Xghajra 29, Birzebbuga 28, Qormi 19, Pembroke 18, Mellieha 16, Sta. Venera 14 and Ta’ Xbiex 1.
