Pieta’ Hotspurs came back from a goal down to beat ten-man Marsaxlokk 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday to maintain alive hopes of avoiding the bottom two places and take the play-off spot.
In fact, the Hotspurs join Santa Lucia on the eleven-point mark, three behind Zebbug Rangers with three matches to go for the end of the season. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, remain fourth from bottom but following Zebbug’s defeat to Valletta on Saturday, they are sure of playing in the Premier League next season.
Leandro Aguirre was sent for Marsaxlokk on 24 minutes but they still managed to take the lead two minutes from the end of the first half courtesy of Ayrton Attard who headed the ball home off a cross from the left.
However three minutes in added time, the Hotspurs equalised thanks to an angled shot by Armen Hovhannisyan which beat goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak.
Pieta’ notched the winner on the 70th minute when captain Daniel Zerafa surprised the Marsaxlokk goalkeeper with a powerful shot from outside the area.
