Second half goals hand Floriana 2-0 win over Santa Lucia

Floriana collected another three points as they scored twice in the second half to beat Santa Lucia 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

While the Greens join rivals Valletta in seventh place, Santa Lucia now share the bottom spot with Pieta’ Hotspurs, three points behind Zebbug Rangers.

Floriana could have taken the lead on the 16th minute when they were awarded a penalty but Mattia Veselji’s effort was neutralised by Santa Lucia goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona.

However, they managed to break the deadlock ten minutes in the second half when off a cross from the right, Kemar Reid headed the ball down for Mattia Veselji to slot the ball past Calleja Cremona with a shot from outside the area.

On the 71st minute, Floriana sealed the issue with a second goal when off a cross from the left by Jan Busuttil, Adam Magri Overend beat Calleja Cremona with a first-time effort.
