BOV Challenge League: Tarxien hit four past Zejtun to move third

Tarxien Rainbows moved an important step towards securing the play-off spot as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 4-0 in a direct clash at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.

Thiago Nonato Peixoto converted a penalty on the 15th. Juninho Cabral doubled the score on the 53rd and three minutes later, Jairo Santos de Oliveira Filho made it 3-0. Substitute Daneel Abela added another on the 67th.

Sliema lead the way with 71 points, followed by Naxxar on 60, Tarxien 42, Zejtun 41, Zurrieq 32 and Melita 31.

Meanwhile Lija Athletic moved closer to securing their status with a  3-1 win over St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Kishi Kotaro put Lija ahead on the 10th and Bradley Sciberras doubled the score on the 24th. Luke Anthony Borg pulled one back four minutes in the second half but Leon Muscat made it 3-1 on the 67th.

Swieqi lead the way with 44 points, followed by St. Andrews on 39, Fgura 38, Lija 36, Marsa 34, San Gwann 31, Attard 30, Marsaskala and Qrendi 27, Mqabba 21, Mtarfa and Vittoriosa 20.
