Futsal national team bounces back with fine win over Austria

The Malta National Futsal Team produced a positive performance and managed to win the second international friendly against Austria 5-2 on Wednesday.

It was an exceptional performance by Zejlko Anicic troops who gave their all to cancel the negative result of the day before as they lost 8-2.

The Maltese boys stunned their opponents in the first few minutes as they established a double advantage through Andre Cachia and Steven Camilleri.

As the match became a bit rougher and with the Maltese committing five fouls, the Austrians were awarded a free shot which was scored by captain Vahid Muhamerovic.

In the second half, the Maltese maintained their bold approach and they even took advantage of being a man more than their opponents as Gustavo Steinwandter got sent off after a retaliation. From this episode, Malta made it 3-1 with Cleaven Portelli whose fierce shot finished at the back of the net.

The same Portelli gave a good account of himself as a prolific striker as he slotted into the empty net while the Austrians were operating on the counter with their flying keeper.

Meanwhile, the Austrians pulled one back through Marco Meitz whose fierce shot beat Debono.

The Maltese were not impressed as they even scored their fifth goal through Luke Gatt to make the final score 5-2.
