The new Assikura Women’s League trophy was unveiled on Thursday during a press conference which was held at the Centenary Hall. Birkirkara will be the first to lift the Assikura Women’s League Trophy in the coming days after being crowned champions earlier this week.
Malta FA General Secretary Dr. Angelo Chetcuti noted that even while unveiling a new trophy might appear like a purely aesthetic alteration, it actually marks an important turning point for the Association, particularly its Women’s Football Department. The Association supports gender fairness, and this trophy is an additional way of doing so. The design and production of this beautiful trophy has been entrusted to the English company, Thomas Lyte.
Assikura Chief Operating Officer Lucienne Cini said that the Women’s Football Department, the Association, and Assikura have collaborated closely over the past year to raise the visibility of women’s football on the islands.
“It is thus with great pleasure that the new trophy has been unveiled during this partnership,” said Ms Cini. “I assure you that Assikura will keep on supporting this movement and together we can continue to increase awareness of the growingly popular and well-received female football.”
