BOV Challenge League: Zejtun Corinthians take play-off spot

Zejtun Corinthians will be taking part in the BOV Premier League Play-Off after they leapfrogged Tarxien Rainbows to finish third in the BOV Challenge League.

In the Play-Off, in programme on Friday, Zejtun will be facing Santa Lucia who placed third from bottom in the BOV Premier League.

In fact, at the Centenary Stadium, Tarxien Rainbows could not manage to get beyond a goalless draw with champions Sliema Wanderers. The Wanderers therefore maintained their unbeaten record.

Ernest Agius, Chief Operating Officer at Bank of Valletta and Matthew Paris, Vice President of the Malta Football Association presented the BOV Challenge League Trophy to the Blues.

Zejtun Corinthains defeated Zurrieq 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Russell Fenech put Zejtun ahead on the 6th minute and although Bydasser Sammut equalised on the half hour thanks to a penalty, an own goal three minutes later, handed the Corinthians the three points.

Runners-up Naxxar Lions suffered a heavy 0-5 defeat to Melita at the Luxol Stadium. Hiroya Konna put Melita ahead on the 5th minute and went on to double the score on the 16th. Matthew Portelli made it 3-0 on the 24th and six minutes later, Konno extended the lead further before Matthew Debattista scored a fifth goal on the 33rd.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, St. Andrews and Marsaskala shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Rundell Winchester put Marsaskala ahea don the 16th and Andres Tenorio Viveros doubled the score six minutes in the second half but William James England scored on the 65th and 72nd to restore equilibrium.
