Women’s national team beaten 5-0 by Haiti

The Malta women’s national team lost 5-0 to Haiti in a friendly match at the Stade d’Octodure in Martigny, Switzerland.

Haiti, currently ranked 53rd in the world, are one of the finalists in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 which will be played later this month.  This friendly match brought to an end a training camp in Switzerland ahead of the second phase of training in South Korea.

The Grenadiers dominated during the first half, taking the lead on the 18th minute thanks to Kethna Louis. Batcheba Louis doubled the score on the 35th and three minutes later, Roselord Borgella made it 3-0. However the first half was not over yet as four minutes in added time, Nérilia Mondésir scored the fourth goal. Shwendesky Joseph scored Haiti’s fifth on the 75th minute.

This was the fourth match for Malta this year, following the appointment of Manuela Tesse as coach, defeating Luxembourg 2-1 and 3-1 in two matches at home and Estonia 2-1 away from home.

Between September and December, Malta will be playing Andorra, Latvia and Moldova in Group C1 of the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League.
