Second-half goals give Gzira two-goal cushion

Gzira United scored twice in the second half to beat F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg 2-0 in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.

The visitors went close to taking the lead just before the end of the first half but Hadji was unlucky to hit the upright.

However nine minutes in the second half, Gzira took the lead when Lucas Macula advanced on the right and rounded a defender before beating the goalkeeper with a shot from the edge of the area.

On the hour, Dudelange had Roemer sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Gzira sealed the issue with a second goal five minutes from time courtesy of Zach Scerri whose first time effort from the right following a cross by Thaiguinho from the left gave the Dudelange goalkeeper no chance.
