Emphatic win for Hibernians over Gzira

Hibernians opened their Premier League campaign on a high as they registered a comfortable 4-0 win over ten-man Gzira United at the National Stadium on Saturday.

New Hibs coach Branko Nisevic paraded new signings Samuel Okoh, Alex Bruno Eriks de Souza, Giannis Baastianos, Rodney Antwi and Luis Henrique in the starting line-up along with Ayrton Attard who was back after spending last season on loan with Marsaxlokk.

The Maroons, on the other hand, had former Hibs winger Thaylor Aldama making his debut for the club while Farid Romero Zuniga and Jose Wilkson Texeira together with substitutes Bilario Azizi and Ryan Essaka made their first league appearance after playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League matches.

Hibs took the lead on the 24th minute when thanks to a powerful strike by Giannis Bastianos following a cross by Rodney Antwi.

The Paolites made it 2-0 eight minutes from the end of the first half thanks to Ayrton Attard who beat David Cassar with a fine rising shot.

To complicate matter even further for the Maroons, Zach Scerri was sent off just before the end of the first half for a foul on substitute Lucas Caruana.

Two minutes in the second half, Hibernians made it 3-0 when Rodney Antwi delivered a cross and Jurgen Degabriele placed the ball at the back of the net.

On the 59th, Hibs added another, once again thanks to Jurgen Degabriele who hit home off a cross from the left.
