Winning start for Valletta

With a goal in each half, Valletta claimed their first three points as they defeated Sirens 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

Valletta coach Thane Micallef handed Jake Galea, Fernando Barrientos, Santiago Ferraris, Luka Susnjara, Victor Luiz, Federico Vega and Neil Micallef their debut while new Sirens coach Steve D’Amato had no less than nine players making their first appearance with the only two players forming part of last year’s squad in the starting line-up being goalkeeper Andrea Cassar and captain Alex Cini.

The Citizens took the lead one minute from the end of the first half courtesy of Federico Falcone who hit low past Cassar following a swift counter-break by Shaun Dimech.

Thirteen minutes in the second half, Valletta doubled the score when a Victor Luiz effort was deflected by Mukhtar Moro past the goalkeeper for an own goal.
