Floriana made it two wins in a row as they scored twice in the second half to beat Birkirkara 2-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
This win was a statement of intent by the Greens following the 4-0 win over Santa Lucia in their first outing. On the other hand, for Birkirkara, this was the first defeat after narrowly defeating Sliema Wanderers last week.
Following a highly entertaining first half, Floriana managed to take the lead seven minutes in the second half when Kemar Reid served Maksim Valadzko on the left and off the latter’s cross, Mattia Veselji passed the ball to the Jamaican forward who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Marcel Zapytowski, following a deflection by Kurt Zammit.
Six minutes from time, the Greens sealed the issue with a second goal when Matheus Souza was brought down inside the area by Jovan Pajovic and from the penalty spot, Ulises Arias made no mistake.
