Leonardo hands Balzan first three points

Balzan bounced back from the defeat to Hamrun Spartans as they registered their first win, defeating Gzira United 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

Gzira, on the other hand, remain empty-handed after two games.

The Maroons had the opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty on the 40th minute after Lucas Ribeiro de Oliveira was brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Danilo Golovic but the Brazilian’s forward effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by the Serbian goalkeeper.

Balzan scored the all-important goal ten minutes in the second half when Aleksa Andrejic sent Leonardo da Silva de Souza through and the latter advanced into the area before beating goalkeeper David Cassar.
