Gzira United came back from a goal down to beat Gudja United 6-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
This was the first win for Darren Abdilla’s side following two defeats and a draw and now share ninth place with Naxxar Lions. Gudja, on the other hand, suffer a second consecutive defeat to stay third from bottom on two points.
Gabriel Mensah put Gudja ahead on the 16th minute with a great freekick which saw the ball end up in the top left corner.
However, Gzira equalised on the 35th when off a cross by Andy Borg, Gabriel Bohrer headed the ball in the direction of Lucas Macula who hit home from close range.
One minute later, Zach Scerri sent Adama Sane through and the latter avoided Ricardo Mendes and lobbed the ball over Sozer to make it 2-1.
Two minutes in the second half, Marcelo Dias delivered a cross from the right and Adama Sane hit home from close.
Gzira extended the lead on the 73rd thanks to a Gabriel Bohrer penalty after Brooklyn Borg was fouled by Marvin Angulo Perea inside the area.
Two minutes from time, Brooklyn Borg scored Gzira’s fifth, hitting home off an assist by Thaylor Aldama and two minutes in added time, Thaylor made it 6-1, placing the ball at the back of the net after Sozer saved partially an attempt by Hytem Kabar.
