Newly-promoted Naxxar Lions registered their first win in the BOV Premier League as they registered a fine 4-0 win over bottom-placed Santa Lucia at the National Stadium on Sunday.
A win which puts George Vella’s side on the four-point mark, one ahead of Mosta, two ahead of Gudja, three ahead of Sirens and four ahead of Santa Lucia. In fact, Santa Lucia remain anchored at the bottom of the table without any points from four matches.
The Lions took the lead four minutes from the end of the first half when Tatsuro Nagamatsu served Marcilio Wiliam Moreira who sent Pablo Augusto Servo de Carvalho through on the right and the latter advanced into the area before beating goalkeeper Celio.
Four minutes in the second half, Naxxar doubled the score as the Santa Lucia rear-guard failed to clear the ball into safety and Moreira served Pablo Augusto who beat the Santa Lucia custodian.
Two minutes later, Pablo Augusto served Edson Cerqueira Farias on the right and the latter beat Celio for Naxxar’s third goal.
Three minutes from time, Naxxar made it 4-0 with Joao Vitor Moura Cardoso heading home from close range off a Daren Falzon freekick.
