Valletta FC announced that the club and coach Thane Micallef have decided to part ways as the club has terminated his contract as Head Coach of Valletta Football Club.

In a statement, the Citizens said that Assistant Coach Juan Cruz Gill will be conducting training sessions until a new Head Coach is appointed.

Thane Micallef had joined the club in summer 2022 but Valletta finished seventh on 37 points, thirty two points behind champions Hamrun Spartans. This season, they are currently eighth with five points from four matches following a win over Sirens, a defeat to Sliema and back-to-back draws with Birkirkara and Mosta.

After serving as assistant coach at Gudja United, he led Pembroke Athleta in season 2020/21, returning to Gudja in 2021 and leading them to a historic sixth place in the BOV Premier League.
