Malta FA, Würth sign two-year sponsorship agreement regarding referees kits

The Malta FA and global family-run business Würth have officially signed a two-year agreement. The signing ceremony took place at the Centenary Hall, as Malta FA General Secretary Angelo Chetcuti and Würth Managing Director Arthur Calleja put pen to paper on this promising collaboration.

Mr Calleja said that ‘Würth Malta is proud to be connected to this leading sport in Malta and for over 150 match officials to carry the Würth logo while refereeing football matches in all competitions in both Men’s and Women’s Leagues, across all ages and all local Futsal Leagues.’

‘We are really excited to see the new kit being unveiled and are thankful to the MFA and the Referee’s Association for their trust over the 2023/2024, 2024/2025 seasons.’

The Würth brand has been an integral part of international sports competitions for many years. The Würth Group has been supporting athletes on all continents since the 1970s: Team spirit, willingness to perform, and the will to give one’s all are values that not only count in sports, but also significantly shape the corporate culture of the Würth Group.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of FIFA referees Trustin Farrugia Cann, Philip Farrugia and Ishmael Barbara. Joanna Vassallo, a prominent female figure in elite development, was also part of this occasion, underlining the importance of this partnership within the broader football community.

The key highlights of this agreement are as follows:

Duration: The agreement spans over two years, ensuring a consistent partnership between the Malta FA and Würth. This partnership will cover more than 150 match officials who are responsible for officiating matches across various competitions.

Introduction of new Macron Kits: Following this partnership, the referees will be getting new kits branded under Macron. These kits will come into play as soon as the October international break concludes and domestic leagues resume. Notably, these kits will be worn by all referees participating in the Malta FA competitions.

Branding: The Macron kits will prominently display branding on both sleeves. Additionally, further branding will be featured on training kits, polo shirts, and rain jackets, showcasing the Würth logo and reinforcing the partnership’s visibility.

Global Presence: Würth, a renowned global family-run business, is not new to football sponsorships. In addition to the partnership with Malta FA, Würth is also an official partner of the German Football Association (DFB) and also cooperates with ten Bundesliga Clubs including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, VFB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen. It is also an official partner of the Italian Football Federation. In Spain, Würth has been sponsoring the referees and linesmen in the Primera and Segunda División, the first and second Spanish soccer leagues, since 2003. In the French professional league, Ligue 1, Würth is a long-standing partner of the Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace football club.

As a token of appreciation, General Secretary Angelo Chetcuti presented Arthur Calleja, Würth’s Managing Director, with a National Team jersey. This gesture symbolized the celebration of Würth’s 35 years of operations in Malta, marking an enduring commitment to the country’s sporting landscape.
