Marsaskala, St. George’s through to National Amateur Cup semi-finals

Marsaskala and St. George’s joined Kirkop United and Mgarr United in the semi-finals of the National Amateur Cup as the last two quarter-finals were played at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.

In the first match, Marsaskala found no difficulty in beating Ta’ Xbiex 5-0. Isaac Abela scored on the 4th and 41st and a minute later, Nobukatsu Tsuchiya made it 3-0. Isaac Abela added another just before the end of the first half and completed his poker with a goal on the 71st.

In the other match, St. George’s defeated Ghaxaq 5-1. Gianluca Sultana opened the score on the 7th minute and Neil Buttigieg made it 2-0 on the 29th. Christian Desira pulled one back on the 38th but Timmy Thomas scored a hat-trick to seal the issue with goals on the 63rd, 81st and a penalty on the 86th.

Apart from reaching the semi-finals of the competition, St. George’s will take part in the Preliminary Round of the IZIBET FA Trophy where they will face Swieqi United while Marsaskala qualify for the Round of 32 of the competition.
