Naxxar Lions extended their positive run to seven matches as they defeated Gudja United 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
A win which enables George Vella’s side to move to just five points behind second-placed Hamrun Spartans as they register a third successive win.
Gudja, on the other hand, suffer a fourth defeat in nine matches to stay second from bottom.
The Lions took the lead on the 16th minute when off a cross by Takuma Yamaguchi, Marcilio Wiliam Moreira da Silva beat goalkeeper Justin Spiteri with the ball crossing the goalline despite Ricardo Mendes’ desperate attempt to clear the ball into safety.
Gudja equalised four minutes later courtesy of a Gabriel Mensah header following a cross from the right.
However four minutes from time, Naxxar regained the lead thanks to substitute Maicon de Souza da Silva who beat the Gudja custodian with a low shot.
