Santa Lucia registered their second win as they defeated Gzira United 2-1 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
A win which puts Alessandro Zinnari’s side three points ahead of bottom-placed Gudja United and Sirens. The Maroons, on the other hand, suffer a fourth consecutive defeat to stay joint-ninth with Valletta and Mosta.
Santa Lucia were awarded a penalty after less than a minute when Adam Bradshaw was brought down inside the area by Thiaguinho but Jurgen Pisani’s effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by goalkeeper Darijan Zarkov.
However, Alessandro Zinnari’s side forged ahead on the 15th when Zarkov blocked a close-range effort and off the rebound, Daniel Letherby placed the ball at the back of the net.
The Maroons equalised thirteen minutes in the second half when off a Thiaguinho corner from the right, Gabriel Bohrer Mentz headed the ball home past goalkeeper Celio.
Santa Lucia regained the lead on the 90th when Zarkov blocked a freekick from outside the area and off the rebound, there was a cross from the left which was well-met by Jurgen Pisani who headed the ball home from close range.
