Birkirkara joined Marsaxlokk in fourth place as they defeated Sirens 2-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The Stripes are now five points behind Sliema while Sirens remain anchored at the bottom of the table as they suffered their eighth defeat.
Birkirkara took the lead on the 9th minute when Maxuell Maia received an assist by Kurt Zammit and beat goalkeeper Andrea Cassar with an angled shot from the left.
Maxuell Maia doubled the score on the 62nd as he beat the Sirens goalkeeper with an acrobatic effort following a cross from the right by Andrei Ciolacu.
Sirens pulled one back a minute later courtesy of Hafiz Mohammed Akadom who beat Zapytowski following a cross from the right.
