Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Mtarfa registered comfortable wins in two matches from Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
In the first match, Birzebbuga defeated Xghajra Tornados 5-0. Samuel Saldanha put Birzebbuga ahead on the 8th minute and the same player doubled the score onthe 29th. Dylan Micallef extended the lead ten minutes in the second half and twelve minutes later, Keith Muscat made it 4-0. Ryan Sammut added another seven minutes from time.
On the other hand, Mtarfa beat Kalkara United 5-2. Mtarfa went four goals ahead in the first thirty minutes as Kurt Borg converted a penalty after just two minutes, Gianfranco Micallef doubled the score on the 19th, Jeremy Busuttil scored a third goal on the 24th and Saturday Nanapere added another on the half hour. Six minutes in the second half, Kurt Borg extended the lead but Kalkara reduced the gap with goals by Andrea Hammett on the hour and Aaron Hili eight minutes from time.
Mtarfa lead the way with 28 points, followed by Qrendi on 25, Birzebbuga on 21, Rabat and Xghajra 17, Pembroke 15, Sta. Venera 14, Mqabba 12, Mellieha 11, Kalkara 9, Siggiewi 7 and Mdina 1.
