Sliema Wanderers registered a fifth win on the trot as they defeated Sirens 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
A win which puts the Wanderers one point behind Floriana although the Greens have a game in hand.
Sirens, on the other hand, suffer a ninth defeat this season to remain anchored at the bottom of the table.
The St. Paul’s Bay side could have taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty after just six minutes after Murilo Freire floored Hafiz Mohammed Akadom inside the area but goalkepeer Rashed Al-Tumi neutralised Kwasi Donsu’s effort.
However on the 64th minute, Sliema scored the all-important goal courtesy of Mohamed Abdulahi Awad who placed the ball at the back of the net off an assist by Denis Kouao.
