BOV Challenge League: Melita move top

Melita moved top in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Andre Carlos Penha da Costa put Melita ahead on the 2nd minute but Johann Bezzina equalised on the 24th. However, Henrique Marcelino Motta restored the lead on the 66th.

Marsa registered a 4-1 win over St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to move fourth. Augusto Rene Caseres scored three goals in ten minutes – on the 10th, 15th and 20th. Wagner Eduardo Alves Pereira converted a penalty to reduce the gap one minute from the end of the first half but David Xuereb made it 4-1 on the 70th.

At the Centenary Stadium, Zurrieq edged closer to securing a top six finish following a goalless draw with Tarxien Rainbows.

Swieqi United and Attard shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Bledi Alla converted a penalty on the 20th to put Marsa ahead and Federico Vasilchik equalised ten minutes from time.

Melita lead the way with 30 points, followed by Zabbar on 29, Zurrieq 27, Marsa 25, Pieta’ 24, Senglea and Fgura 23, Lija 21, Swieqi 20, Tarxien 16, Zejtun and Luqa 13, Zebbug 10, St. Andrews and Attard 8 and Msida 6.
