Floriana moved to just three points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans after defeating Naxxar Lions 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
For Mauro Camoranesi’s side this was the fourth win in five matches which enables them to close in on the Spartans while moving seven points clear of third-placed Sliema Wanderers. Naxxar, on the other hand, are now joint-eighth with Balzan and Santa Lucia on 21 points, just one ahead of Mosta and three ahead of Valletta. This was their fourth defeat as they have now gone six matches without a win.
The Greens took the lead on 17th minute when off a cross by Willis Furtado, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli served Alexandros Kouro beat goalkeeper Matthias Debono with an angled shot from the right.
Floriana doubled the score on the 45th minute thanks to Aleandro Garzia who beat Debono when served by Furtado on the right.
Willis Furtado made it 3-0 on the hour with a low shot from outside the area which beat the Naxxar goalkeeper.
