Santa Lucia register third successive win

Santa Lucia made it three wins in a row as they beat neighbours Gudja United 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

A win which puts Alessandro Zinnari’s side on level points with Naxxar Lions and Balzan, one point ahead of Mosta and three ahead of Valletta who are currently fourth and third from bottom.

Gudja, on the other hand, suffered their eighth successive defeat to remain anchored at the bottom of the table.

Santa Lucia had a perfect start, taking the lead on the 7th minute when off an assist by Alessio Piazza from the left, Aleksa Mrdja flicked the ball home past goalkeeper James Pisani.

On the 16th, Santa Lucia doubled the score when Aleksa Mrdja advanced on the right before serving Alessio Piazza who slotted the ball past Pisani.

One minute from the end of the first half, a header by Mrdja from close range was blocked by a defender and Daniel Letherby hit home from close range.

Three minutes in the second half, Steve Pisani hit the crossbar, direct from a corner from the left.

Ten minutes later, Santa Lucia made it 4-0 courtesy of Evandro Pinto Gomes who beat James Pisani with a rising shot from the edge of the area following a Steve Pisani freekick.
