Swieqi United Futsal clinch Enemed Women’s Trophy

Swieqi United Futsal won the Enemed Women’s Trophy after defeating Lija Athletic A 4-1 in the final which was held at the St. Aloysius Pavilion.

It was a great display by the Owls as they showed their supremacy right from the start and even though Lija tried hard, they could not spare defeat defeat.

Swieqi forged ahead after just six minutes through Danna Fuentes who beat Daniela Mativa with a low shot. Twenty seconds from the end of the first half, Lija had a golden opportunity to equalize as they were awarded a penalty but Ruth Steer Cheetham saw her shot saved by Swieqi’s keeper Christiana Pisani.

In the second half, Swieqi remained consistent and it was Danna Fuentes again who scored in the 31st minute and ten minutes later, Andjela Kricak from close range made it 3-0. Lija seemed confused and on 43 minutes, the Owls scored the fourth goal after as Amy Abdilla’s freekick surprised Mativa. Just a few seconds from the end of the match, Lija reduced the arrears through Ylenia Azzopardi.

At the end of the contest Brenda Refalo from Enemed presented the cup to Swieqi captain Krista Montfort amidst the joy of the players and staff.
