A goal by Jamie Carbone two minutes from time handed Melita a narrow win over Pieta’ Hotspurs in the BOV Challenge League Top 6 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
A win which puts them three points clear of Zabbar although the latter have a game in hand.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Marsa defeated Zurrieq 3-1. Kalani Capponi Delarole put Zurrieq ahead on the 11th minute but James Brincat equalised on the 36th. Paul Lapira handed Marsa the lead on the 78th and four minutes later, Augusto Rene Caseres sealed the issue with a third goal.
Melita lead the way with 44 points, followed by Zabbar on 41, Senglea 34, Marsa 33, Pieta’ 32 and Zurrieq 28.
In the Play-Out, a goal by Erjon Beu eleven minutes in the second half handed Lija Athletic a narrow win over Luqa St. Andrew’s while St. Andrews and Fgura United shared the spoils in a goalless draw in the two matches at the Centenary Stadium.
Fgura lead the way with 30 points, followed by Lija on 28, Swieqi and Luqa 25, Tarxien 24, Zejtun 22, St. Andrews 15, Zebbug 14, Attard 11 and Msida 6.
