BOV Challenge League: Zabbar return to winning ways

David Oliveira Souza notched a hat-trick as Zabbar St. Patrick returned to winning ways, defeating Zurrieq 4-1 in the BOV Challenge League Top 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Andrej Nakov put the Saints ahead after just two minutes and although Christopher Baker equalised on the 20th, David Oliveira Souza restored the lead on the 43rd, adding another two goals on the 52nd and 60th.

Melita lead the way with 56 points, followed by Zabbar on 50, Marsa 39, Pieta’ 38, Senglea and Zurrieq 34.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Luqa St. Andrew’s and St. Andrews shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Collins Gyamfi converted a penalty on the 31st and an own goal put St. Andrews on level score four minutes later. Alan Abdel Rahman restored the lead for Luqa on the 63rd. However a Wagner Eduardo Alves Pereira penalty two minutes in added time restored equilibrium.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, a goal by Jean Borg eleven minutes from time handed Swieqi United a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians.

Msida St. Joseph and Fgura United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Centenary Stadium.

Andrew Xuereb put Fgura ahead on the 7th and Johan Alberto Castano doubled the score on the 37th. However three minutes from time, David Chidera Ejiofor reduced the gap and Claydie Micallef notched the equaliser three minutes in added time.

Swieqi lead the way with 37 points, followed by Fgura on 36, Lija 32, Tarxien 30, Zejtun and Luqa 27, Zebbug 26, St. Andrews 25, Attard 17 and Msida 7.
