Mtarfa claim National Amateur Super Cup after penalty shoot-out

Mtarfa won the National Amateur Super Cup after defeating IZIBET Amateur League and National Amateur Cup winners Mgarr United 5-4 on penalties following a 4-4 draw after extra-time at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

Jurgen Suda converted a penalty on the 11th minute but Jeremy Busuttil equalised on the 61st. Two minutes later, Suda restored the lead for Mgarr. Gabriel Nazareno Mannino levelled matters on the 73rd but Mgarr were quick to regain the lead two minutes later. With two minutes to go, Saturday Nanapere converted a penalty to equalise and force extra-time.

Thirteen minutes in the first half of extra-time, Saturday Nanapere converted another penalty to hand Mtarfa the lead for the first time but nine minutes in added time, Julian Camilleri restored equilibrium.

In the penalty shootout, Saturday Nanapere, Melvin Busuttil, Kurt Borg, Gabriel Nazareno Mannino and Gianfranco Micallef scored for Mgarr.

Ryan Camilleri, Jurgen Grech, Gordon Saliba and Liam Portelli scored for Mgarr with Christian Saint Ebisindor missing the only penalty.
