Victoria Hotspurs will be participating in competitions organised by the Malta Football Association as their request to join as a member club was approved by an Extraordinary General Assembly of the Malta FA which was held at the Centenary Hall on Tuesday.
Forty one voted in favour and eleven against. This means that Victoria Hotspurs will join Dingli Swallows, Ghaxaq, Kalkara United, Mdina Knights, Mqabba, Sta. Venera Lightnings, St. George’s, Siggiewi and Ta’ Xbiex in the Amateur League 2.
On the 2nd October 2023, Victoria Hotspurs FC, a club affiliated with the Gozo Football Association, submitted a request to the Malta FA to become a full member thereof. This request was discussed on a number of occasions at Executive Board level Amongst others, the Executive Board confirmed that the applicant club fulfils the formal requirements established under Articles 9 and 10 of the Statute.
In its meeting of the 5th March 2024, the Executive Board resolved that subject to the submission of a written request by VHFC to withdraw from membership with the Gozo Football Association, an Extraordinary General Assembly shall be immediately convened by the Malta FA Executive Board to discuss and vote upon the admission request of VHFC with the MFA.
Victoria Hotspurs are one of the most successful clubs in Gozo, having won the league thirteen times, the GFA Cup twice and the GFA Super Cup nine times among other honours. They were founded in 1948.
This season, they took part in the Gozo Football League Second Division and won the championship along with the Second Division Knock-Out and the Second Division Challenge Cup.
In order to be eligible to join the Malta FA, Victoria Hotspurs had to withdraw their membership from the Gozo FA.
In recent years, other Gozitan clubs like Ghajnsielem, Kercem Ajax, Nadur Youngsters and Xewkija Tigers had submitted requests to join the Malta FA as member clubs and participate in MFA competitions.
