The Malta Women’s national team will be playing in League C of the UEFA Women’s Nations League after finishing bottom of Group B3 of the Women’s European Qualifiers, losing to Northern Ireland 0-2 at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
Ironically Malta claimed the only point in the group in an away match against Northern Ireland but since then, Malta lost at home to Portugal which was followed by back-to-back defeats to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
An own goal by Emma Lipman after just ten minutes put the visitors ahead and although Malta created some goal scoring opportunities, Northern Ireland sealed the issue with a goal by Kerry Beattie ten minutes from time.
Meanwhile before the game, Stephania Farrugia was presented with a shirt to mark the 100 appearances for the national team by Malta FA General Secretary Dr. Angelo Chetcuti and Director of Women’s Football Pierre Brincat.
Farrugia played her 100th game in the away clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
