360Sports Malta Premier: Hibernians, Sliema seek sole leadership

Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers seek sole leadership in the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round as the two cross swords in one of the four matches in programme on Thursday.

In the first match at the National Stadium, Marsaxlokk face Birkirkara.

The Southseasiders are seeking their first points after back-to-back defeats to Gzira (0-1) and Melita (1-2) while Birkirkara will be aiming for a second win after beating Zabbar St. Patrick narrowly during the weekend. In their first outing, the Stripes had earned a point in a 3-3 draw with Balzan.

In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Balzan meet Naxxar Lions.

Balzan earned just one point so far from a 3-3 draw with Birkirkara, losing to 0-2 to Sliema during the weekend. Naxxar, on the other hand, lost their 1-2 to Hibernians but bounced back with a 2-1 win over neighbours Mosta in the derby.

In the second match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium. Gzira United take on Mosta.

The Maroons defeated Marsaxlokk 1-0 in their first outing but then lost 0-2 to Hibernians. On the other hand, Mosta are still without any points after losing 0-2 to Sliema and 1-2 to Naxxar.

Meanwhile in the big match for this mid-week programme, Hibernians cross swords with Sliema Wanderers.

Both teams claimed maximum points from the first two matches and therefore seek a third win in order to go into the international break enjoying sole leadership. The Paolites beat Naxxar 2-1 and Gzira 2-0 while the Wanderers registered back-to-back 2-0 wins over Mosta and Balzan.
