Valletta were drawn with FC Honka Espoo of Finland in the first round of the UEFA Youth League domestic champions path as the 2024/25 UEFA Youth League first, second and third round domestic champions path draw has been made at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland on Tuesday.
The first leg will be played in Finland on September 18 with the return match scheduled for October 2. The winners would then face AJ Auxerre of France in the second round. The winner of this tie would then face IFK Göteborg of Sweden or TSG 1899 Hoffenheim of Germany.
The ten third-round winners will progress to the round of 32 and will be drawn against the teams finishing between seventh and 16th in the UEFA Champions League path league phase.
Valletta are the first team to represent Malta in the UEFA Youth League after winning the National Youth League Section A last season.
FC Honka have been an established club in the Finnish top division after being promoted for the first time in their history at the end of the 2005 season, participating regularly in the UEFA club competitions but the club filed for bankruptcy in November 2023 and are now playing in the fourth tier. However, FC Honka are largely renowned in Finland for its extensive youth scheme with over 1,000 youth players playing in various age groups.
