Mosta register first win as they beat ten-man Hamrun

Mosta claimed their first three points in the 360Sports Malta Premier as they defeated champions Hamrun Spartans 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

For the Spartans, this was the first defeat after two wins and a draw from their first three matches. However their performance was quite disappointing, apart from missing a penalty towards the end of the first half. On the other hand, Mosta played probably their best game so far.

Hamrun had three changes from he team which defeated Melita as Mattias Ellul, Eder and Raphael Lopes were replaced by Elionay, Wendel Barros and new signing Chris Odong Mba.

Mosta, on the other hand had three players making their debut – Prince Afire, Lassana Coulibaly and Souleymane Lone. Leo Fernandes was also included in the starting line-up. Tegwi Shedrack Thomas and Cristian were missing from the squad while Richard Luca and Matheus Cambuci were among the substitutes. Another new player, Chisom Sunday Okereke was included as a substitute.

Hamrun Spartans could have taken the lead just before the end of the first half when they were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time after Juan Carlos Corbalan was brought down inside the area by Lassina Larsson Coulibaly but Luke Montbello’s effort from the penalty spot hit the crossbar.

Ten minutes from time the Spartans were reduced to ten men as Ryan Camenzuli was sent off for using inappropriate language.

Mosta took full advantage as one minute from time, they notched the winner when substitute Chisom Sunday Okereke headed the ball past goalkeeper Henry Bonello following a cross by Nathan Agius, deflected by a defender.
