Mosta made it two wins in a row as they came from behind to beat Marsaxlokk 4-2 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.
The Blues move seventh on six points, two behind Hamrun and Hibernians, one ahead of Balzan and two ahead of Melita, Naxxar and Zabbar, leaving Marsaxlokk anchored at the bottom of the table without any points after five matches.
Mosta managed to take the lead after just eight minutes when Clayton Failla’s freekick was blocked by a defender and Joshua Agyemang hit home off the rebound.
However, on 22 minutes, Marsaxlokk levelled matters courtesy of Alex Tanque who concluded a solo effort withh a powerful shot whcih beat goalkeeper David Udoh Akpan.
Ryan Scicluna hit the crossbar for Marsaxlokk on 39 minutes but five minutes later, the Southseasiders made it 2-1 when new recruit Jai Quitongo, served by Duane Bonnici, advanced on the left before beating Akpan with a fine shot.
Eight minutes in the second half, Mosta restored equilibrium thanks to Prince Afriyie whose fine effort from the edge of the area beat goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak.
Eight minutes from time, Mosta regained the lead when Zachary Brincat concluded a good run on the left flank with a cross for Richard Luca who hit home from close range.
Four minutes in added time, Mosta sealed the issue with a fourth goal when they were awarded a penalty after Richard Luca was floored inside the area by Nikola Raden and Clayton Failla converted from the penalty spot.
