Women’s national team to face Italy in friendly match next month

The Malta Women’s National Team will take on Italy in an international friendly match next month.

The match will take place on Friday 25th October at the Tre Fontane sporting facility in Rome, Italy. Kick-off time is scheduled for 18:15hrs and the game will be broadcast live on TVMSport+.

This represents another match against strong opposition for the National Team, having already faced off against Portugal and Northern Ireland last July in the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Qualifiers. The two games finished in narrow losses for Malta, yet the team still left with their heads held high after producing spirited displays.

With Malta’s next competitive fixtures set to take place next year, this international friendly will serve as great preparation for Coach Manuela Tesse to assess her team, especially when facing tougher sides.

Commenting on the friendly versus Italy, Tesse said: “The upcoming game will be tough, especially given the strength of the opponents, but we’re focusing on the positive aspect of gaining experience.”

Competing against strong nations like Portugal, Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and now Italy, while it may not lead to a favourable result, will certainly help the team develop and grow over time,” she continued.

Malta’s two previous encounters against Italy came in October and November 2019 during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Qualifiers, where the Azzurre came out on top in both, winning 2-0 and 5-0, respectively.
