Marsaxlokk claimed their first three points as they turned defeat into victory, beating Balzan 2-1 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
The Southseasiders, led for the first time by Enzo Potenza after he replaced Winston Muscat earlier this week, therefore, close in on the three teams sharing the second place from bottom, although they still lie at the bottom of the table.
On the other hand, for Balzan, this was the third defeat in six matches and they lie just one point ahead of Melita, Zabbar and Naxxar and two ahead of Marsaxlokk.
Ironically Balzan managed to take the lead on 13 minutes when they were awarded a penalty Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya was floored inside the area by Lucas Lopez and from the penalty spot, Udoyen Akpan converted.
The Southseasiders equalised on 26 minutes courtesy of a Yuri Messias strike from inside the area which beat the Balzan goalkeeper.
Marsaxlokk notched the winner seven minutes in the second half when off a Jai Quitongo cross, Alex Tanque headed the ball home past goalkeeper Golovic.
