Birkirkara make it eight wins in a row

Birkirkara registered an eighth consecutive win in the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round as they defeated Gzira United 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

The Stripes therefore regain a six-point lead over Floriana, seven points ahead of Sliema Wanderers.

Gzira, on the other hand, continue to share the fifth place with Hamrun Spartans on 11 points. They have now gone five matches without a win, collecting just two points in the process.

Birkirkara scored the all-important goal on 14 minutes. Manuel Morello delivered a freekick from the right, Nathan Cross had a shot blocked by a defender and with a shot from outside the area, Agustin Sandona beat goalkeeper Justin Haber in the bottom left corner.
