A brace by Franklin Sasere paved the way for Floriana as they returned to winning ways, defeating Balzan 3-0 in a match from tehe 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
The Greens move temporarily three points behind leaders Birkirkara who have a game against Gzira United in hand. Balzan, on the other hand, remain ninth on eight point as they suffer a third defeat in four matches.
Floriana managed to take the lead on 8 minutes when off an assist by Guy Yameogo from the right, Franklin Sasere slotted the ball past goalkeeper Danilo Golovic.
The Greens doubled the score two minutes in the second half. Fernandinho delivered a corner from the right, Oualid El Hasni served Franklin Sasere whose first-time effort placed the ball at the back of the net.
Floriana increased the lead on 64 minutes when following a good run, Thiaguinho served Jake Grech who passed the ball to Franklin Sasere who flicked the ball back to Thiaguinho to enter the area and hit low past the Balzan goalkeeper.
Four minutes from time, Sasere could have completed a hat-trick but his header off a cross by Fernandinho from the left hit the woodwork. In added time, Carson Bushman-Dormond also hit the upright for Balzan.
