Attard, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Mellieha, Victoria Hotspurs and Xghajra Tornados secured a place in the quarter-finals of the National Amateur Cup after they emerged as winners in five matches from the Round of 16 which were played on Saturday.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, Attard defeated Mdina Knights 4-0 thanks to goals by Josmar Galea on the 37th, Nigel Spiteri just before half-time, Justin Cassar on the 75th and Camilo Del Castillo two minutes from time.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Ta’ Xbiex 4-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to a brace by Samuel Saldanha on the 24th and 41st, Marquinho on the 25th and Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman on the hour.
Mellieha defeated Marsakala 3-1 after extra-time at the Charles Abela Stadium Christian Grech put Mellieha ahead on the 61st but Fabrizio Zammit equalised on the 90th. The game went into extra-time and Alexander Akl restored the lead for Mellieha six minutes in the second half of extra-time and in added time, Anis Louati added another.
Victoria Hotspurs defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Dejan Bogdanovic put the Hotspurs ahead on the 9th minute and although Dario Aquilina equalised with a penalty before the end of the first half, Daniel Farrugia converted a penalty just before the final whistle to hand the Hotspurs a place in the quarter-finals.
Xghajra Tornados needed extra-time to beat Kalkara United 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Cheyzen Spagnol put Xghajra ahead on the 40th but Liam Paul Hartley equalised on the 66th. The game went into extra-time and Spagnol increased the lead on the 98th and six minutes later, Francesco Gusman extended the lead. Liam Paul Hartley scored a second goal for Kalkara on the 119th minute.
