Mazzotta names squad ahead of Liechtenstein friendly, Andorra UEFA Nations League fixture

Interim Malta coach Davide Mazzotta has announced a 27-man squad for the upcoming international fixtures at the National Stadium, setting the stage for two important games. The squad will first face Liechtenstein in a friendly match on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 19:00, as a warm-up for their critical UEFA Nations League showdown against Andorra on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 20:45. The match against Andorra carries significant weight, with Malta pushing for promotion from League D in Group D2.

Mazzotta’s selection introduces one new addition: Western Sydney Wanderers’ Dylan Scicluna, who earns his first call-up to the senior team after representing Malta at the U-19 and U-21 levels. The squad also sees the return of several players who were absent due to injuries in October, including Floriana’s Carlo Zammit Lonardelli, Enrico Pepe from Gzira United, and Sliema Wanderers’ Steven Pisani. Additionally, Myles Beerman has rejoined the team after missing out last month.

However, the team will be without Jodi Jones, Luke Montebello and Steve Borg, all sidelined with injuries. Malta’s Nations League campaign has been strong, with the team accumulating six points from their first three Group D2 matches—equal to Moldova. Both teams lost one game and will conclude their campaigns with matches against Andorra.
