Malta FA to evaluate technical positions, announce new coaching setup in the new year

The Malta FA is actively evaluating its options for the future of the national teams’ coaching staff for the next cycle. This coincides with discussions on the introduction of a new Association strategy which includes technical projects at its core.

Following the completion of the November international window, the interim coaching tenure of Davide Mazzotta and Ernesto Javier Chevanton with the men’s senior national team is now concluded.

Appointed on September 24, 2024, Mazzotta and Chevanton took charge of the team for the last two international windows of the year, including two home competitive fixtures in the UEFA Nations League. The Malta FA would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to both coaches for their dedication, professionalism, and the positive atmosphere they fostered among the players, the technical staff, and the fans during their short time with the team.

As their interim term was contractually bound to conclude in November, the Malta FA will now take the necessary time through December and January to evaluate all options for the future. This assessment is aimed at establishing a new organisational chart for its technical setup, which will be announced in the new year.

While the future coaching appointments remain open for consideration, the Malta FA emphasises that a strategic review will be carried out to ensure the best path forward including the possibility of retaining already engaged technical staff.
